The organisation was established as a result of the increasing incidents of crime against women and children in the area. A 14-year-old girl was brutally raped and murdered in the community and it brought women together to create an initiative that would empower abused women and youth to be self-reliant and not depend on the abuser. Community Women Action was established to address the skills gaps of disadvantaged women and youth focusing on rights, accredited skills, entrepreneurship and sustainable living.
The project aims to achieve the empowerment of women whereby they are self- sustainable and self-reliant, and not dependent on the abuser or the absenteeism of a partner in the household who is identified as the bread winner. We not only want to improve the employability of these individuals but create entrepreneurs to sustain their families, contribute to their local economy and create jobs.
