Lungelo Women’s Organisation was started by a group of nurses who worked at different local clinics, who saw that there was no service offered for abused women. They sought help from Rev Tau from FAMSA who gave them their initial training before they started operating.

Whilst working at the clinics these nurses were confronted with an alarming number of women who needed their services, presenting them with cases of battery and other forms of abuse. At the time there were no services dedicated to abused women in Soweto, thus the organisation was established.

The aim of the WVL project is to raise awareness around VAWC, promote gender equality and empower at-risk girls and their parents/guardians.
