Surviving violence from my mother
“I want to provide help to other children the same way that I have received and want to build champions through my own initiative of peer education.”
My name is Nqobile and I have been abused by my mother for a very long time. My mother physically, verbally and emotionally abused me and this has created a lot of anger and animosity towards my mother and other people in general.
I began to isolate herself and even attempted suicide a few times because I was feeling unloved by everyone. I no longer wants to stay with her mother who abuses her at every opportunity she gets to the extent that my mother even body shames me and this has also made other relatives to body shame me by calling me fat and chubby like I have control over the body that God has given me.
Before the programme that was initiated by Lungelo women’s organisation I was a child who had no interest in playing with other kids. Through the program I have learned to play with other girls and children. I have cried enough and this time I feels stronger and I want to help other children who are in a smiliar situation like I am in.
I intend to use the knowledge that I have gained to help other children who are in a similar situation like mine because I know that there are a lot of children who are suffering abuse at the hands of their parents and they have nobody to talk to or they don’t know where to go for services to ensure that they are not abused.
