A solid support structure
“One can choose to go back toward safety or forward toward growth. Growth must be chosen again and again; fear must be overcome again and again” – Abraham Maslow
As a young female in South Africa, who started my career at a very young age, I have personally experienced how difficult it is to break into the work sector as a young woman. Working in various industries, I have been exposed to all types of leadership and in all cases, women are still not being given the chance to showcase their potential. Women are also not being exposed to the endless opportunities that are available to them. I want to be able to empower women across all sectors through Bellona. I want to share my life experience with ALL women – no matter their race, colour or creed – who are still striving to weed out archaic prejudices in the workplace to make a deep meaningful, social impact.
Being part of the Secretary General of Bellona has contributed to my personal and professional development. Organizing and time management has contributed a lot. As the secretary general this has aided me in my professional development in that not everything needs to have a meeting. Road maps and assigning responsibility to others keeps them accountable for the deliverables that they produce.
Being part of this team has also helped me be more vocal about when my mental health is on the rocks to ask for help and understand that it is okay to ask for help. This has one of the hardest hurdle that I personally had to overcome and this team understood and they provided me with the support that I needed. This is one of many reason as to why I am a proud member.
