“We envision learners to dream big and become valued, respected, and successful members of the community.”

It gives me great pleasure to write a motivation for the New Heritage Foundation. We have been privileged to have the ladies address our grade nine learners on various topics which included, types of relationships, period dignity, different ways to communicate and gender based violence.

During their visits they have addressed the learners using creative techniques to engage with them and with their peers. The learners have reacted well to the levels of presentations. The Heritage foundation has liaised with the Life Orientation teacher, Mrs. Duncan during these sessions. She has communicated with them what the needs of the learners. They have come well prepared. The grade nine learners look forward to their sessions once a week. Other topics they will be presenting include:

Menstruation with dignity and making their own reusable sanitary towels. This would enable the girls to be in school more regularly and have a better understanding of their menstruation times. The boys were included in all of these sessions and now treat the girls and their sisters with more understanding and respect.

The program has enhanced the material covered in the life orientation syllabus and allows the educator to monitor and test the learners on the skills and knowledge that was covered by the foundation. We have included the new heritage foundation program within our curriculum and starting this coming exam the student will be writing about it.

We look forward to a lasting relationship with the foundation and would encourage them to assist us in uplifting our learner’s confidence with more programs of such a nature.
